« …. Vincent Dumestre and his partners sound the lute, theorbo, guitar mandore and cittern, whose brass strings give a deliciously metallic sound. Pierre Hantaï and his double-keyboard virginals joins them on some tracks or performs solo a few pages from the Fitzwilliam Virginal Book. The narrative construction of each piece, the subtle gradation of nuance, the dynamic diminuendos and the singular sound of the instruments, especially the ceterone, are skilfully recorded by sound engineer Hugues Deschaux, while the mix of melancholy and alacrity make this CD a very enjoyable find. »
